I left the artifact in, I like it. smile Shot with a ND3 grad and a ND8 that I hand held over the front of the lens because it was 4mm too big. big_smile .

You did better than I did.  I tried simultaneously shooting a model and the eclipse.  Didn't come out nearly as well as I would have liked.

And that folks is a first. I honest to God never expected to hear something like that come from you to me.

Post yours anyway! I may disagree. big_smile

Even with a 400 watt-second flash directly aimed at her from 8 feet away I couldn't get a clear shot of the eclipse.

If you use my settings of 1/8000 and F5.6 and reciprocity, you needed to set the camera for the correct exposure looking into the sun then light the model at F45 if I did the math right, again using my settings. YMMV.

IDK how the shutter curtain movement would figure into this though.

At any rate, it is a great shot and I like it.

Thanks.  I had to use a shutter speed of 1/250th to sync with the flash (reflected light didn't work).  So ended up at 1/250th at f 32, which is far as my lens would stop down.  Have to make compromises, which is why the result isn't what I wanted.

I suppose you could have used graduated ND's and made it work too. Using my settings again, with the ND 3 and the ND 8 you could use 1/250 and F32 (or more ND for a bigger aperture) then blast light on the model.

Graduated NDs might have worked, but straight NDs don't help.  I didn't have any 72mm graduated NDs, though.  My decision to do this was too late in the game to get any.

I know what you mean! I literally was sitting at my desk with the sliding door open. It was 6:20. I said to myself "oh crap". I don't remember what made me think of the eclipse but I grabbed the camera and went at it.

Awesome! I never would have thought about using window tint for ND.
