Ok... let's face it, beauty pageants, no matter how much they prattle about scholarships, are about looks & gender roles. It's ridiculous how people look at the contestants & criticize the pageants, on ANY side of the argument.

But I caught a comment in this opinion piece about the "sexy new photos" of the Miss USA contest (really, they remind me of Mario Testino's stuff from 10-15 yrs ago):

Right, because nothing says "smart and sophisticated" like soft-core porn.

Get over yourself, lady. Attitudes like that make me ILL, but they DO reinforce the point that some of the models who do Maxim/FHM style glamor with handbras & the like because "people won't see it like they do n00dz" are SORELY mistaken.

It'd be nice if people could grow up about stuff like that.

You can find more risque shots in a Sears catalog from 30 years ago... soft-core porn my tail.

I'm under the impression it's just self appointed pundits blabbering about Miss U.S.A. being soft core porn. This is after all Miss U.S.A. not Miss America which was primarily a mom and pop run organization IIRC and can't even get on TV anymore, much less in prime time.

Donald Trump owns and runs Miss U.S.A. and that's all about making money. Viewers have increased as skin has increased and the participant dust ups with unauthorized nudes and outrageous comments have only bolstered the shows over all mass appeal. Think train wreck, can't look away.

Trump's in business to make money, sex sells, that's what he's selling. Let the blue bloods switch it off if they wish. Apparently there are more than enough interested observers to keep it on TV and in the money.

Could it be that she is a Lebanese-American immigrant and first Muslim to win? Maybe the events going on now this doesn't look good for them.

This story was posted before she won, these were pre-pageant publicity photos for ALL the contestants

You and I both know that Porn is viewed in the eye of the beholder, where A) the model is in sexy lingerie and spread legged to the camera with a look that says "jump my bones" or a very sensual nude that is very non suggestive, but yet.. the model that does the nude gets the flack and the one who did the slutty lingerie shot is fine because "She wasn't nude"

... Anyway... Stupid how people view things and I think that shot was very classy for being lingerie...
