Yeah, it's been quite a while since I addressed the Weekly (Weakly?) Contest Issues. More than 6 months ago actually. Forgive me for pulling this old chestnut out of the fire, but things haven't been addressed and seem to be getting worse.

The lack of participation killed the Photographer of the Week, Model of the Week, Model of the Week 18+, etc. It was mentioned back then that new advances would address this issue and were in the works. Six + months later, this week's sole weekly surviving (?) contest is the "Artist of the Week" and is STILL in the threads, rather than a sitewide Contest where the level of actual entrants might have a chance of real participation and growth.

It is currently the Contest ending 9-28-10 and is only being participated in by the Contest Administrator (PKM), and a TI member (Joe Fogg). See link:



No offense to the work of either participant, PLEASE don't regard this post as that, but it is now limping along resembling a 3 legged race. I will abstain from voting in protest, not that I don't like the work of either entrant! Shouldn't there be at least a minimum of 3 entrants to make this valid to some degree? And wouldn't it be lovely if those participants are those who enter into the POTD Contests daily, as the work demonstrated there is usually quite good and frequently highly competitive?

I used to participate in the Weekly (Weakly?) Contests. Even posted my previous wins to my profile. I have seen quite a few other members who have done the same. If the truth be known, I hold each and every POTD & POTD 18+ Contest wins in far greater regard than the Weekly wins, as they hold far more credibility when one considers the competition and quality levels. To win now would feel rather hollow for me and to post that win to my profile, not highly beneficial. Others might feel differently. This is just my feeling about it and why I haven't entered in a very long time. Perhaps others feel the same way and this might be a partial explanation as to why things are the way they are?

There HAS to be a better way of doing this that might turn this lack of entrants around! I suggested a site wide format once and still feel it to be a valid option. Can it not be coded by Daniel as a sitewide Contest similar in fashion to the POTD and POTD 18+ Contests with links on the Homepage? IMO, its the only way for it to grow and become an asset to the site, as opposed to a relative embarrassment.

As an unrelated side issue, why is it that anything written into the "Site Related" section of the Forum not display on the Homepage where it can be viewed at large as other Forum posts are as opposed to being buried in the Forum where it will be rarely viewed? On second thought, this IS related to the Weekly Contest being buried in the threads and not viewed readily.

OK, it is understood that until V2 comes online that the Weekly Contest is not a priority. Granted. HOWEVER....it's chestnut pulling time again! 

The fact is that we once had the Photographer of the Week, Model of the Week (x2), MUA of the Week Contests all running at one point in time. It was an epic FAIL due to the lack of regular membership participation. The offshoot of which resulted in the formulation of the Artist of the Week Contest, which encouraged submittals from models, mua's, as well as photographers into ONE Contest. Participation in this limped along for quite a while, as I've occasionally noted. I've had suggestions in setting up Contest rating systems, PIC of the WEEK, PIC of the MONTH Contests have also been suggested in other Forum posts which would effectively bind ALL the various Contests together into ONE cohesive system, with smaller subsets. I had assumed that nothing would be done UNTIL V2 was well under way. So much for assuming, eh? 

NOW? The AOTW has been discontinued and in it's place is ONLY the "new" Photographer of the Week Contest again. This now effectively kills any participation in a weekly contest from either the mua's OR models. On a site called MODEL INSIDER, this is an improvement benefitting the model... HOW?

Why this switch now, before Daniel has the chance to code the Weekly Contests in similar fashion to the daily ones AFTER the release of V2? Clue me in please as I'm back to being confuzzled again??? This seems to be a step backwards, not forwards.
