Glycerin is becoming hard to find...
Where do you guys buy your glycerin? I use it for fake sweat, and I went to get some this morning, and 3/4 pharmacies only had the butt pill form... no bottles...
I always seem to find it at cvs or rite aid. You also might try at camera stores too in the darkroom supplies. Hope this helps you.
Let the magic begin...

I did find it at RiteAid this time, though it was hard to find. One of the clerks had to ask the managers where it was. He said it's becoming increasingly rare that people buy it in bottle form and he wasn't sure how much longer they would even carry it in stock...
I guess people prefer cramming suppositories up the corn hole...
If it comes down to it, I can always order commercial grade glycerin through work, but I would prefer something that doesn't look like a bottle of toxin...
Hopefully a few artists from America will respond to this question.
The last time I bought glycerine, I got it at a local super market. Although, I am in Australia so my response will be of no use to you.

Lol!
Road trip!
I wonder if Glycerine recently has been removed from the shelves for security reasons, since it is the precusor to a weapon of mass destruction (NITRO-glycerine) ?!?
Well... In my studio we have MANY other things on our shelves that might do almost the same trick, allthough initially bough for SLIGTLY other reasons:
1: Baileys,
2: pressurized cans with Whipped Cream,
3: and K-Y Jelly !!!

glycerin has been a precursor to nitroglycerin (and dynamite) for many years without being on the shit list. its also a precursor to many soaps and cosmetic products. Pretty much impossible and ineffective to ban it for those reasons. I just got some locally at a pharmacy without any trouble. Perhaps the shortage is simply local usage patterns caused them to not feel like keeping it in stock? It's pretty oldschool. maybe very few were buying it?

Yeah, the guy said they're not stocking it as much since people just aren't buying it as much... The bottle that I did get had been there for a while too, as indicated by the layer of dust that was on there.

well you can freely get it here in caselot quantities. However even though it's not a banned substance or even on the watchlist, if you were to bring it back across the US border with a stated destination that close to DC I imagine you would sit in a room for a long time while they tried to find something bad about you.
Do you not have any makeup stores kicking around?
The special effects ones in Toronto sell it?

The OP is in the US. They don't have Shoppers Drug Mart selling LIFE brand glycerin right on the shelves like you do in Toronto. I suspect people don't think of it because nobody advertises it anymore. There's no good profit margin in a plain bottle of something. The packaging surely costs more than the content.
Rite Aid is pretty much the only place that still carries it around here.
I've recently found it in the cake decorating aisle at Walmart here in Florida.
Any company that supplies soap making materials carries glycerin (Soap Crafters, Majestic Mountain Sage (http://www.thesage.com/) My wife buys it by the gallon for use in making soap. You can get it in quarts, gallons, 5-gallon pails, etc.
I just had 5 (five) straight evenings where downpours were guaranteed but ended up being light drizzles. So I had to go get some to make the drizzle bead a bit on the skin (or even make the skin look at all wet ). my corner store had some in the "organic healthy we will charge more for this stuff" aisle. I was pleasantly surprised. For those who cant find rite aid, find your local store t hat carries organic cheerios and biodegradable dish detergents. chances are they have glycerin on the shelf and it wont be coated with dust.
