Model Insider Spotlight - Phillip K. Marra - MI 1405

How did you get started in photography? What brought you to it?
I always was a creative type while growing up . I first got a taste of it while in High school but it wasn't until I got out of the army when I really pursued it with a passion.. I went to a community college to take classes, then moved to California to go to a private photography school. My best training of all was assisting a well know local Pro. Love the way you create an image in your mind, and watch it as it appears on the printing paper in the darkroom.

Do you consider yourself: Pro, Semi Pro, Hobbyist, Amateur, Something Else?
I used to be a full time pro, but now I’ve scaled back a lot, and take it as it comes. So right now I consider myself a Semi pro, I guess.

How did you find Model Insider and what do you like best about it?
I found Model Insider by the way of Craig Seay (http://www.modelinsider.com/84), he asked me to be a co-director of Team insider. I find the members here more fun, and helpful if you need advice, and more willing to share information about the photography business.

What gear do you use?
I use to use NIkon & Hassy equipment for years, but just this past year I switch to cannon 5DM2

What is your usual genre? Favorite genre?
I like to shoot different subjects from nature to nudes. I really like shooting the old Hollywood images, love that type of lighting.

How do you find models to work with?
I really don't find them, I usually already friends with them, or by networking.

Do you do provide styling and makeup? Do you work with a preferred MUA?
No, I leave that to those who knows how to do it. I don't have a favorite MUA that I like to work with.

Where do you see yourself going in the next year, artistically and business wise?
I see myself doing more video, and still creating my art, and just trying to enjoy life.

Do you shoot both in studio and on location and do you have a preference?
I shoot both, I usually use my friend's space or rent one if need be. I mostly shoot on locations. I actually prefer to shoot on location.

Do you have your own studio? If not, do you find this a limitation?
No I don't have my own studio. and yes sometimes it can be a limitation depending in what you want to shoot.

Do you travel?
Some travel, not to much anymore.

Anything else you'd like to tell Model Insiders about yourself?
That pretty much covers it, not to exciting huh?
