Model Insider Spotlight - Jennifer Powell-Pincelli - MI 8565

How did you get started as a Makeup Artist? What brought you to it?
Ever since I was allowed to wear makeup I have been in love with it. I have studied in all types of art, from sketching to drafting, but didn't really realize I could do this for a living. After getting laid off from my office manager’s position I decided it was time I started doing something I actually liked! After doing my daughter and her friends’ Halloween makeup people started contacting me to do their makeup. I started purchasing professional makeup and supplies and learning as much as I could from as many places as I could. I have found this to be the most satisfying and enjoyable time of my life. Best decision I have ever made!

Do you consider yourself: Pro, Semi Pro, Hobbyist, Amateur, Something Else?
I consider myself Semi Pro. I get paid for most of my work now, but do still take some TF projects to network and update my portfolio.

How did you find Model Insider and what do you like best about it?
I found Model Insider through following a photographer I am a fan of, it's a great place to view others work and network.

Please tell us about your makeup and other product preferences?
I use products from many different companies, always looking to try others in case I like the results better. I have MUFE Face and Body, Cinema Secrets, and RCMA in my case now, all working the best for different skin types. Smashbox primers are one of my favorites also.

What is your usual genre? Favorite genre?
Through trying to create a nice portfolio I have met and worked with several photographers and models that I have come to be working mostly with beauty. I do a lot of character also, as I have several cosplay friends and contacts. Body painting and character is a favorite, just because I can play around a little bit more.

How do you find models and photographers to work with?
I started out with meeting several cosplayers and photographers that worked with them. After getting on another networking site, I contacted a photographer whose work I liked and asked to work a TF shoot. I also attended a group shoot and met several photographers and models, since then I have been getting referrals and repeat business that has been instrumental in my business!

Do you do also provide hair styling or other services? If not, do you work with a preferred stylist or other provider?
I do light hair styling, straighten, curl, easy fast up-dos. For most of the shoots I have done though, the model has done their own hair.

Where do you see yourself going in the next year, artistically and business wise?
In the next year I hope to just continue learning and growing. I have several body paintings in the works and looking forward to those. I continue to research, practice different styles and learn from the many talented people I work with. I also am going to be working on growing my Henna work.

Do you travel?
I could possibly travel with compensation, depending on time and circumstances.

Anything else you'd like to tell Model Insiders about yourself?
Just that I am dependable and always do everything I can do help make the best pictures possible. I take constructive criticism as it is meant to be, learning from it and fixing it. I want to work with people to make true collaborations and make sure everyone is proud of the results!
