What I am wondering about are the lists? If a shot is deleted from a port, does it disappear from someones list? I can not remember.

Which is fine by me, but Dean really wants to be able to keep people in the dark and then intone that we don't have "the whole story". People actually seeing parts of the story that he doesn't want seen will cause, at a minimum, the posts to be hidden. Or worse.

In large part they try to maintain their power by keeping information from people.

I think it might be a little late for that. If they start hiding posts in that thread, now...

It's pretty clear that this was something that just wasn't well thought-out.

I agree with Chris --- there are several posts on that thread that caused other threads to be hidden right away earlier tonight. People say only 10% of mm uses the forums but I am sure that that number is significantly higher with the lurkers.
They put themselves into a corner where they can't hide a post in that thread or hide that thread.

It doesn't hurt that there is active and ardent support for anything BUT MM being spread far and wide.

As I said- my YIM exploded. My PMs went nuts.

And I have the mother of all migraines sitting right behind my eyes from the constant flashing back and forth between screens. I'm about to strip down and beg James to scritch my head until I pass out.

An interesting question was just asked on the MM forum:

Weren't many of the original posts originally put up before IB took the reins and changed the TOS? Or am I wrong?

He's right, and James got the right answer.

When the new TOC was put in place I took down a lot of my posts (many of the same ones at issue now) and replaced them with a statement of why. Here's an example:

http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?threa ... 2213&page=

After the new version of the ToC was implemented, I went back and replaced a lot of that material because I was assured they would not continue to claim display rights to it if I took it down later.

Another member who used to be a GK but isn't any more happened to mention my post. That person wasn't brigged, but recieved a Cam from Dean saying he was very disappointed that the person mentioned that, and was told to not do it again.

Yea, that was me. I got an RCAM from Dean that I regrettably deleted after a brisk reply of "Noted." It essentially admonished me in a very patronizing way, telling me that I shouldn't act that way, that I was expected to conduct myself better, and that I shouldn't do it again. I wasn't being punished that time, but was being warned and would be punished next time. I was told that a note was being put in my file in the mod room, and that further similar action would result in appropriate discipline.

And, FWIW, after MI launched a note went up in the GK room everyone had to agree to. It essentially said that we could either GK for MM, or go do something else for another site, but that we couldn't do both. It, prior to that, had been asked of us GKs that we not be negative about MM or share our feelings about anything we had issues with regarding the site, rules, policies, etc.

I asked to be removed from the GK group immediately after getting my moderator status here. I have no regrets.

I didn't think you would mind saying your name, but I am so programmed to be so careful about "outing" someone, that I automatically skirt around it...

It's insane after all the good rachel has done for that site on a strictly volunteer basis, that Dean would act like that toward her.

Let's not distract this with personal attacks/issues on particular members on the other site, please. :)

Indeed.

We've already got one person accusing those upset over MM's actions of simply trying to attack the site in favor of promoting others, including this one (which was specifically mentioned). Interestingly, the only ones mentioning this site are those making the accusation, which I find somewhat ironic.

Please don't stoop to arguing that point, which is simply an ad hominem attack - if you're upset at MM's actions, it must be because of who you are and the fact that you want to promote a "competing" site, the argument goes - clearly your feelings towards the issue are negated for that reason.

Many want to make it into a fight, when it's not. It's an issue, to be sure, and the fact that it's being discussed here, where there aren't those with the power to ban or hide posts out of a conflict of interests does not turn it into a fight.

And you know, I'll be perfectly candid here for a second - the more MM insists that we're in some kind of cut-throat competition and that this is, indeed, a zero-sum game, even though it's not, the more they're going to convince me that yeah, maybe I *should* take off the gloves, put on the big boy underpants and compete.

I can walk that road...

My feelings aside......it really wasn't coming from there. If that's coming from our conversation, I admire your memory. :D

It was coming from some of the infamous battles standpoint.

But that said.......I squished it anyhow, and will remain on the higher road. I think... :?

I understand that newmodels.com is now set up to redirect to modelinsider.com when referred from MM.

I also understand that you have been posting a number of links to newmodels.com without context, and, especially due to your relationship to a partner in MI, we can only assume that this is intended as spam.

I know that today has been troubling to a lot of people, and no one is happy about all the circumstances and decisions made. But let's please try not to make matters worse by violating the professional courtesy MM and MI share for each other.

Can we please try to get along?

Thanks,
BD

Brian:

I have ALWAYS posted links directly to www.newmodels.com for new models. I posted THREE times with that link last night. I usually post it at least once every day that I am in the forums.

In one case I specifically targeted a model asking about AGENCY information, explained that the site is run by a gentleman who used to run the NY office of Ford (you know, the AGENCY) and that the information was excellent for what she was asking.

In another I answered two questions the model had, and suggested that she read www.newmodels.com

One post could be considered spam, as I just posted the link. Heavens forbid- I have a headache that just won't quit. I was slammed by a mod (my YIM went nuts with people saying ASSHAT!!!!) for voicing an opinion regarding a fearmongering model in SR! That same mod has been going around trashing and slamming everyone involved in this issue.

Brian- I have no issue with the mods- but THIS is what started this mess. Deliberately and willfully attempting to silence those who actually give solid, useful and REAL information to the newbies. Those who are active in both the forums and the community as a whole, who archive and make available massive amounts of practical, real-world guides for photographers and models alike.

I will stop posting the link in the forums. I will not stop giving it out to everyone, as I always have.
